Careless lawyer

Our homeowner association hired Mr. Hillshafer as HOA’s lawyer. Last year he charged us $429.00 to type the amendment to our HOA’s CC&R’s to delete HOA member’s cumulative voting rights from our CC&Rs and to record the amendment with the LA County Recorder’s office. He recorded a blank CC&R’s amendme...nt form document with no amendment wording typed into the space provided. California Civil Code 4270 requires that the amendment is effective only after it is properly recorded in the county. He recorded a blank form, and worst of all, he gave this blank form to HOA to be distributed to the members. One of the members discovered this discrepancy just at the closing time of HOA board of director’s election and demanded to exercise cumulative voting. This lawyer’s malpractice could easily cause a lawsuit between the HOA member and the HOA.

Firm is bad for HOA's

The entire firm is not good if you are an HOA. They will waste your money till you have nobody who likes you anymore. They are not good at what they do.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
