Diversion usually means that you have some sort of rehab or substance treatment in lieu of some sort of penal action.

In most jurisdictions, you have less recourse in choosing your attorney when the attorney is court appointed. They usually do not let you go...

Hard to say, an attorney who practices in your state in that area of law should be able to help you determine if it is worth it or not.
