Amazing TRO attorney

After my boyfriend pushed me down a flight of stairs (sadly not the first time), I had convinced myself that I wouldn't feel comfortable with a male attorney representing me after I finally worked up the nerve to get a restraining order against him. I called a few women attorneys but for some reason... nothing seemed quite right with them. Then I searched avvo and saw Mr. Cannon's name. I called his office and I was impressed with how quickly he (emphasis on HIM responding and not an assistant or paralegal). First, he asked if I was ok; he asked if I still was living in a harsh situation. He said he had great referrals for domestic violence counselors (which kinda surprised me coming from a man). I was amazed that Mr. Cannon asked all of these things that had nothing to do with HIM actually getting business, and he sounded like he genuinely wanted to make sure I was ok before "talking shop". And when he did start discussing the process for restraining orders, he was really patient, and explained the difference between temporary and permanent restraining orders. He told me the temporary order was "easy" but the permanent was "hard". He told me how to get an Emergency Protective Order from the police before seeking a family order. I was so impressed I had the utmost confidence and I hired Mr. Cannon. At my hearing, he continued to exceed expectations. He gave a killer opening statement, he made sharp arguments, he was able to stop my ex from trying to "put the victim on trial" by bringing up a bunch of irrelevant stuff. He totally threw my ex off on cross-examination. In the end, I got a 5 year restraining order and I couldn't be happier. I know the focus of Mr. Cannon's business is divorce but if TROs are only what he handles part time, I can't imagine how smart he must be in his main practice. I could rave on for days but I've already rambled enough. Thank you Mr. Cannon

RUN - DON'T WALK AWAY FROM THIS GUY!

Here is the opening line from one of the emails he sent to me: “At the end of the day, there's only so much "high maintenance" drama I can deal with. I should have been more upfront about that I suppose." I'm not sure why someone who is not comfortable w/high maintenance drama would pursue a c...areer as a family law attorney. In terms of drama it's a career choice that has to rank up there with reality TV show producer. Perhaps it is his case load - which should have been a red flag when I interviewed him. (At the time he said he was handling 150 cases - with just him and his partner - and no apparent office support staff). The result was phone calls would go unreturned for weeks. Same story w/emails. (As a point of reference, I have retained new counsel. Her case load is 60 - 70 and she has a staff of four. I get responses promptly – even if it is just a quick heads up that let’s me know the staff is working on my question or request.) Opposing counsel in my case said that in the 30+ years he has been working in the family law field, he has never encountered someone as arrogant or horrible to work with.

Intelligent, Hardworking and Honest

Unfortunately for me, but fortunately for Jamaul, I have been divorced three times. He handled my last two and YES there's a reason I went back to him for my third. Simply put, Cannon Legal Group has attorneys who care and who are excellent at getting the job done. The thing that marvels me is h...ow unlike my initial attorney, Jamaul is very upfront about the costs required to go to trial and how trial benefits HIM more than clients in most cases. He said he's able to sleep at night because he knows that he tries his hardest to avoid clients needless wasting resources in family law cases in which (his words not mine) there really aren't true winners, just degrees of losing. So whether it's clients insisting on trial or wanting to come in for weekly thirty minute "status updates" (guilty as charged), he doesn't want people to waste money. Needless to say, I've always appreciated the candor and that's why I went back and I've referred another friend who was getting divorced.

Exceptional Attorney for LGBT issues

Mr. Cannon was unbelievable. When I first approached him regarding my wish to him to draft a registered domestic partnership for my partner three years ago, I thought he had a keen knowledge of same sex issues. When I went back to him after California finally legalized gay marriage, he helped draft... our prenuptial agreement. Through both processes, Mr. Cannon simply treated my partner and I as if we were no different than any other clients. When there were certain issues that were specific to same sex couples he let us know, but by and large I admired his professionalism and insight. All in all, I couldn't recommend him enough.

An outstanding attorney

What every reviewer is saying about Jamaul Cannon is true: he is brilliant, professional, and courteous. I urge you to do yourself a favor and take this rare opportunity and hire Mr. Cannon. He is both a towering legal intellect as well as a considerate professional who will patiently explain his leg...al strategy and expectations. Before I met Jamaul, I had the misfortune of hiring another attorney to represent me in my recent divorce. My case involved a short-term marriage with no children nor assets in common. Nevertheless, my ex-wife, who is both well-educated and has extensive work experience, demanded a ridiculous amount of spousal support (approximately 50% of my salary). Not only was that other attorney as courteous as a DMV employee (he rarely returned my emails or phone calls), his legal strategy to defend my interests can best be summarized as "just lay on your stomach." Once I realized that my case was headed towards financial disaster, I decided to seek competent legal representation and I was lucky enough to find Jamaul. From the moment I met Jamaul, I realized that I was in the presence of a man who is in full command of the law. It took him but a few seconds to dismiss my previous attorney's 'surrender strategy' and he explained, in simple terms, why my ex-wife was not entitled to any spousal support. Against Jamaul's wishes, I eventually decided to settle with my ex-wife for a fraction of the support that she originally demanded. There is no question that Jamaul's formidable efforts were critical in saving me from a financial catastrophe. Although my case concluded months ago, I had postponed the writing of my comments because I refused to write a perfunctory, two-minute, review for a man who defended me with the tenacity and determination of a friend. Professionals like Mr. Cannon deserve to be recognized and it is with great pleasure that I wholeheartedly recommend him as your attorney.
