Grace Lea Chang received a Martindale-Hubbell BV® rating from her fellow lawyers. A BV® rating is bestowed upon a lawyer who has “an exemplary reputation and well-established practice … with a significant client base and high professional standing.”
Ms. Chang began her law practice after working 22 years in the healthcare field; managing a department of a Beckman Instruments and clinical laboratories. But she desired more intellectually stimulating work and enrolled in law school at the suggestion of her late husband.
While attended law school at night, Grace worked fulltime, often 12-hour days. Law school proved especially challenging, since English is her second language. Juggling the raising of two kids and working fulltime, she never considered quitting.
Ms. Chang’s first legal work experience was in a small law firm environment. This experience taught her the importance of direct client contact and was enjoyable, but she yearned for greater challenges. She found positions with several large firms in Los Angeles that included four years at one of the largest firms in the United States. During her large law firm tenure, she learned about maintaining the highest professional standards in her legal work. Her large firm legal work focused on international corporate litigation.
But Ms. Chang wished to return to working more directly with her clients and opened her own firm. This gave her the opportunity to apply the large firm standards and skills to a small firm setting. Traditionally, small firm clients do not get the same attention to detail and thorough research that large firms provide. Ms. Chang’s philosophy is to utilize the large firm approach for her clients.
In addition to providing personal attention to her clients, Ms. Chang has earned a reputation for skillful and effective legal representation, always mindful of the practical solution.
Ms. Chang is fluent in three dialects of Chinese: Mandarin, Cantonese and Shanghainese. Her practice areas include family law, civil litigation, probate law, wills & trusts and corporate advisement & transactions.

I know many lawyers who never charged any clients for reviewing their case documents before taking the case. But Grace Change charges a few thousand dollars for reviewing a potential client case documents. Not recommend.

It's a long story. How should I start. It's a painful and long story. My child's father was working overseas for 4 years. He was having affair with another girl who didn't know he was married with a child. They went to Japan for vacation. I didn't know about this until I couldn't find him for a...

It has been over a month since we've requested refund of our retainer balance. She asked for about $2000, which she took immediately out of our account. There was about 1 hour of work only done. She owes us the balance, but her excuse was first that she was too busy to issue a refund and second tha...
Person misstates facts. I spent more time than they realize working on this case. The refund they were entitled was issued and the check cashed. Furthermore I did not charge the client for all time spent on the case.

Ms. Chang's office gave you an initial good impression. However after a few meetings with her staff and herself, it was clear that she mistated her work, was completely unprepared and avoided court appearances due to her lack of preparation. She allowed my ex-wife's attorney walk all over me without ...
I worked very hard for this client. I spent many hours reviewing the case and the materials. As is often the case, the effort i put forth often goes unappreciated.

I had an absolutely awful experience with Grace. At first, I believed that she was going to walk me through my custody and child support case with knowledge and help. She seemed willing. However, after receiving my retainer, very little was done after that. Yes, they filed my papers, but I had to go ...
Client fails to tell the whole story. In fact she admitted to my staff that on that day nothing got done because the judge being unreasonable. I have been an family law attorney for over 20 years and the process is not simple. There are instances when the court does things that clients do not like, but are done for reasons that don't reveal themselves until later.
