also known as BPD Divorce Attorney, Clarke L. Young
Since 1993, Mr. Young has practiced family law exclusively. IHe has litigated numerous high conflict custody cases in which the other party/spouse suffers from Borderline Personality Disorder ("BPD"). Because of the innate difficulty of BPD cases, Mr. Young accepts only a few qualified clients to represent.
Mr. Young's "baptism" into family law litigation resulted from his own experience in a highly contested divorce and child custody dispute which began in 1993 and raged until July 2003. Mr. Young has "been there and done that" and his clients benefit immeasurely from his personal experience as a family law litigant. To quote Mr. Young, "Once you have been a consumer of the family court system, you never practice family law the same way again."
From 1980 until 1993 (prior to his divorce), Mr. Young lived in Juneau, Alaska and practiced land use law, real estate law, and property law,. Mr. Young played a central role as a private citizen, attorney, and elected member of the City and Borough of Juneau Assembly (1086--10/89) in the planning and design process involved in converting Juneau's landscape to an "urbanscape" in such a way as to produce multiple net planing gains for the community. During the 1980's in Juneau, Mr. Young also became pre-eminent in pre-foreclosure and foreclosure defense work.
In June 1995, Mr. Young left Alaska and returned to Los Angeles, California to create the "substantial change in circumstances" the law required to trigger a de novo review of the then-current child custody and visitation order. (Mr. Young's children had remained in Alaska with their mother pending the five day custody hearing). In August 1996, although Mr. Young was the move-away parent, he was awarded sole legal custody and primary physical custody of his two young children, a daughter (then age 5) and a son (then age 3). His children lived with him from August 1996 until they left home to attend college.
"In my opinion, any attorney who has not been personally subjected to the destructive, demeaning, dehumanizing family court system cannot really represent family law litigants," argues Mr. Young. "Once a court destroys your life, livelihood and your family you can never practice family law the way you did before. Now it is easy for me to recognize attorneys who view family law as nothing more than a business with a lot of human 'collateral damage'".
When you decide you want to have a say in your own life and the lives of your children, call Clarke L. Young.
