Seth R. Hancock is an experienced and zealous criminal defense attorney and has handled thousands of cases throughout Southern California, including Los Angeles County, San Bernardino County, Riverside County, Orange County, Ventura County, Santa Barbara County, San Diego County, and Kern County. Mr. Hancock handles all types of criminal defense matters. He has experience representing individuals being investigated by law enforcement, charged by prosecutorial agencies, at trial, in the Court of Appeal, in habeas corpus proceedings, and parole hearings.
After graduating with high honors from California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, he continued his education and obtained a Juris Doctorate degree from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. Following law school, Mr. Hancock worked as a Staff Attorney at the Project for the Innocent, a non-profit organization that represents individuals that are in prison for crimes they did not commit. In that capacity, Mr. Hancock played an integral role in successfully freeing a woman serving a functional life sentence for a murder she did not commit. In addition to that success, Attorney Hancock also became the one of the first attorneys in California to successfully litigate a Senate Bill 1437 Petition, which resulted in his client’s murder conviction being vacated, and his client being re-sentenced and released.
As a Staff Attorney at the Project for the Innocent, Mr. Hancock also taught various legal topics to law students, while simultaneously mentoring and instructing them on the in’s and out’s of post-conviction legal proceedings. Following his work at the Project for the Innocent, Mr. Hancock worked as a Deputy Public Defender in Los Angeles County—the largest and first Public Defender’s office in the nation. As a Deputy Public Defender, Mr. Hancock successfully litigated hundreds of motions, gained significant trial experience, and received numerous acquittals (“not guilty” verdicts) for his clients. After several years as a Deputy Public Defender, he then entered private practice, where he worked for a prestigious criminal defense firm in the Los Angeles area.
Mr. Hancock decided to open his own criminal defense practice in an effort to provide clients with high-quality representation at an affordable price. Mr. Hancock understands that navigating the criminal justice system is stressful and that the possible consequences are detrimental. He strongly believes that the inherent stress of being caught in the criminal justice system should not be compounded by the stress of having to pay a life-altering amount of money for legal services. Mr. Hancock offers free telephonic consultations. He does not try to intimidate clients into hiring him or choosing his law firm. Instead, he will explain the ways that he can assist you or your loved one with a criminal case and encourage you to talk to as many other attorneys as you’d like in order to feel comfortable that you have found one that is a good fit for you.
If you choose to retain the Hancock Defense Team, you will be passionately represented and can rest assured that you will receive top-quality representation. Mr. Hancock will use all of his experience and expertise in his fight to obtain justice on your behalf.
