Ineligible to practice - Mr. Stephen Doniger

I retained this attorney only to discover via the CALBAR website that they are not eligible to practice law as of July, 2024, and as of the time of this review. He did not make any efforts to inform me and in fact this office seemed very impressed with their own alleged achievements. By this offic...es own acknowledgment here on this website they indicate they were deemed ineligible by the State Bar due to an ‘administrative error and failure to pay a fee’. TBH I got the impression during our consultation that the firm may be experiencing financial difficulties and I have a nagging suspicion this is why they were unable to pay their state bar fees because they were very focused on when I’d be paying the retainer. In one response here on AVVO Stephen claims the ineligibility is CT related then in another that it’s IOLTA related so the information is very inconsistent and may be questionable. IOLTA accounts are sacrosanct and the issue appears to be related to IOLTA account maintenance and record keeping which may be serious as an IOLTA account is where a lawyer holds client funds in trust. I am in the process of terminating my relationship with the lawyer and requesting a refund of the retainer paid and will report back as the situation develops.

This is a bad joke, and appears to be part of an ongoing PR attack by counterfeiters that I recently obtained a unanimous jury verdict against in federal litigation (see https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/paramount-bidder-found-liable-manufacturing-selling-counterfeit-dvds-1235934563/). I do not know this "John S," have certainly not received any retainer from him, and my firm has been duly licensed to practice law in California and multiple other jurisdictions at all times (the use of "they" in the review is irresponsible and baseless). Our Client Trust / IOLTA account account has been properly maintained and reported to the State Bar at all relevant times and the suggestion that our firm is experiencing financial difficulties or could not pay State Bar fees is laughable. Reader of "hit job" reviews beware. Of course, if any actual or prospective client ever has a legitimate grievance, please reach out to me and I will always be happy to address it respectfully and professionally.
