Ms. Benefield is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the Beverly Hills Bar Association, American Bar Association, Langston Bar Association, Black Women Lawyers Association.  She is also a member of the California State Bar Family Law Section and Trusts and Estate Planning. Ms. Benefield is a Ronald Brown Fellow for the Center of Politics and Commercial Diplomacy and a distinguished Loyola Law School Public Interest Law Fellow. Ms. Benefield is a member of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC).

In addition to the practice of law, Ms. Benefield is a licensed real estate broker (renewal application pending). She is also fluent in the Spanish language.
