Steven Thomas Gebelin

I am an intellectual property and internet law trial attorney. I routinely handle cases related to internet-based businesses and claims. My experience includes copyright, trademark, trade secrets and patent infringement lawsuits. Additionally, I have extensive First Amendment and speech tort experience relating to defamation lawsuits, Anti-SLAPP practice and unfair competition.

Representing defendants in defamation cases, I have secured numerous dismissals pursuant to California’s Anti-SLAPP statute as well as the award of attorney fees. Representing plaintiffs, I have helped clients prevail at trial in defamation cases and secured general damages in addition to punitive damages. 

I also have appeared multiple times as a cyber liability and internet law expert on television for the Los Angeles NBC affiliate, informing viewers about liability for online sharing of illicit videos, responses to online allegations of misconduct, and privacy issues relating to smartphone apps.  I have also appeared as an expert regarding online defamation cases for Southern California's NPR affiliate.

I graduated from New York University Law School where I attended on an academic scholarship. I began my career handling intellectual property litigation at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan in Los Angeles. At Quinn, my engineering background led me to a spot on teams litigating on behalf of Silicon Valley titans like Google and LinkedIn, among other technology companies. After Quinn, I joined an internet law practice group at a prominent Los Angeles litigation boutique before establishing Lesowitz & Gebelin LLP as a name partner.
