Do not take this review lightly! These other reviews are fake profiles. I got represented by Riley. this attorney basically screwed me over with 20 hours of “his time” which he didn’t even come close to that. He represented me in court one time and wrote up a response and some bank information to th...e court. On the day of hearing he was late and he didn’t have my paper work filed with the court. So embarrassing! This is family court your kids are YOUR priority the last thing you need is to be showing up late. I remember the deputy was even cracking a joke at me because he was late and I didn’t have representation. Too top it off my stuff wasn’t filed and i just didn’t look like I was being represented the right way. Anyways if you wanna spend almost 5k in attorney fees my best recommendation is just represent yourself and take your kid on vacation. This guys takes for ever to answer calls and sometimes cant get a proper response. He always forgets what is asked of him and when you call he more than likely is walking his dog and can’t take your calls

Without insulting this attorney I will state facts. Derek Riley was hired for a move away/custody case. Communication with Mr. Riley was a challenge which made me uncomfortable. We had a trial coming up and I needed to pay an additional $5000 retainer. I made a payment towards that retainer of $3000.... Shortly after, I became very concerned for lack of communication and plan for trial. I immediately found an attorney that explained what still needed to be done on my case and then terminated Derek Riley. I asked for the return of my funds. He refused. I filed a fee dispute arbitration and won. He has yet to pay on the judgement and not the State Bar is stepping in to help. I also discovered that nearly 2 1/2 years after serving my ex husband with divorce papers, he failed to file a proof of service. Proceed with caution when hiring any attorney.
