Serious Concerns About Dishonest-Feeling Billing and Unprofessional Conduct

My experience with Jason Kim raised major red flags—particularly around billing practices that felt, at best, careless, and at worst, deliberately inflated. I have worked with many attorneys, and I have never encountered invoices structured this opaquely or defended this poorly. From the outset, c...ommunication was slow and inconsistent. Emails regularly went unanswered for long stretches—even when time-sensitive issues required immediate attention. But what was most alarming was the billing that followed these periods of silence. I was repeatedly charged for “work” that never translated into progress, updates, or deliverables. Several line items appeared inflated, duplicative, or disconnected from any substantive action on the case. When I raised these concerns directly, in writing, multiple times, I received no meaningful explanation. No breakdown. No justification. No correction. The emails were simply ignored. That behavior alone—avoiding any conversation about questionable charges—speaks volumes about the lack of transparency and accountability. It left the impression that the invoices were padded, that time was being billed without real work performed, and that the hope was I simply wouldn’t question it. When an attorney refuses to address obvious billing discrepancies and hides behind silence, that is a serious ethical concern. Between the chronic unresponsiveness and the billing that felt intentionally vague and inflated, I completely lost trust. Professionalism means transparency. Ethical billing means being willing to explain charges. Neither was present here. Based on my experience, I strongly advise prospective clients to proceed with extreme caution. Monitor your invoices closely. Demand detailed breakdowns. And consider whether your matter deserves counsel who is responsive, forthcoming, and transparent—qualities I did not experience with Jason Kim.
