James graduated magna cum laude from Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark Law School, where he served as an articles editor for the BYU Law Review and was honored with a membership in the Order of the Coif for outstanding legal scholarship. James began his law career in complex commercial litigation at a national law firm, Brown & Bain (now Perkins Coie) in Phoenix, Arizona. He later joined Scalley & Reading in Salt Lake City, Utah where he continued practicing law in commercial litigation and added general business to his practice areas. During that time James served as the Command Judge Advocate in the 19th Special Forces Group (Airborne) of the Army National Guard where he advised Army officers and soldiers in the areas of family law, small business law, and basic estate planning. He was promoted to the rank of Major, earned his jump wings at the US Army jump school at Ft. Benning, Georgia, and was recognized by the Army for his meritorious service. As a partner at the Henderson, Nevada law firm of Peel Brimley LLP, his practice areas included corporate and business law, contractor regulatory compliance and licensing, and contracts law. Now with more than two decades of legal experience, James is the managing attorney of Claflin Law Ltd in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he practices business and family law. James has been a member of the law faculties of Brigham Young University's J. Reuben Clark Law School, Concord University Law School, and the University of North Dakota Law School, where he also served as the Director of the Legal Research and Writing Program. As a law professor, James has enjoyed designing and teaching courses in legal research and writing, the legal process, appellate advocacy, torts, trial advocacy, and contracts. James has continued his love for teaching the law as a faculty member for attorney seminars on the subjects of business, corporate, contracts, and family law in addition to volunteering his time as a guest teacher at local schools on "Law Day." James also volunteers his time to pro bono cases and "Ask a Lawyer" clinics.

Far exceded expectations!

From my first call with Kathy, James' paralegal, I knew that I was in good hands. I had consulted 2-3 other lawyers and did not feel like they would pay as much attention to detail as Kathy did in the first 5 minutes of me speaking with her. When I received a call back from James that same day, his... experience and knowledge far exceeded that of the other attorneys I had consulted with. James took time to explain divorce proceedings in detail and gave me comfort knowing that he would personally be handling every aspect of my case. James was able to calm me down & provide a peace of mind from that very first call! I couldn't have gone through this process without his calming, yet determined demeanor. I would highly recommend James to anyone experiencing a divorce. He has your best interest in mind, he's detail oriented and very efficient!

Claflin law helped me tremendously!

Mr Claflin was amazing to work with. By giving me clear and well thought out process of my divorce. Due to a custody cass he was able to offer a phase 1 and phase 2 process that overall had excellent results making my worries and stress lowerd. His experience and knowledge went a long way when I felt... like I had no choice but to give up. I highly recommend Claflin Law if you need any legal representation they truly care about you.

Amazing Lawyer

My husband And I were in need of creating a Will and Last testament for our family. When we contacted Claflin Law they immediately put us at ease with the process! Last Will and Testament Assistance

James was informative, helpful and professional with all of the legal advice around my wife & my last will and testament. This was something that was long overdue and James was able to bring piece of mind in a matter of days.

Honest, respectful, and knowledgeable attorney

Mr. Claflin's legal guidance proved invaluable to me during my divorce case. In a mere 30-minute consult he gave me the tools needed to best tackle my case that ultimately led to another state. Should I have needed an divorce attorney in Nevada, I would have hired him in an instant. He is knowledgeab...le, respectful, and honest, and my case would not have fared the way it did in regards to custody without his insight and direction.
