Posted by Tamara | May 26, 2019 | Hired Attorney | Chapter 13 Bankruptcy

Not Ready for Prime Time

Owen offered to terminate our attorney client relationship. I accepted offer. She owes me a refund of $810. She hung up on me when asked about the refund. I retained the services of Christine Owen on January 8, 2019 to file a chapter 13 BK for me. We agreed I would be in touch when I was ready to fil...e. I paid her $810 on 4/26 as I planned to file sometime over my summer vacation which began on May 24. She contacted me via email earlier this week. I believe it was Monday and asked when I could come in to complete paperwork. We scheduled to meet on May 24th at 4pm. (There was an issue with a young inexperienced receptionist a few weeks ago who was unprofessional. As a result, Christine subsequently sent me an email stating that she would be handling my case personally going forward. ) As result, I was surprised when I arrived to my appointment today and she was not in the office. She was in court. Her subordinates who were alone in the office were rude, unprofessional and did not have the authority to assist me with what I needed. I needed an emergency filing filed due to a pending writ of execution by a creditor. In previous conversations, Christine had told me that would not be problem. Today, her subordinate was saying she could not do the emergency filing. I told her it needs to be done ASAP because the creditor received the writ of execution on May 16th and I did not want to be subject to a bank levy or wage garnishment. I asked her subordinate to call the attorney on the phone. Christine, the attorney, was called and placed on speaker phone. She was abrasive, argumentative and unprofessional. Next, she gave me an ultimatum. She said " you have two choices: we can terminate the attorney client privilege or I can sign a statement regarding a tax return. Since she offered to terminate the relationship I accepted since it was clear she was not a good fit. I said if you want to terminated the relationship, I want a full refund. She hung up on me when I asked about the refund. I am very disappointed with Ms. Owen. The conduct that she displayed today was indicative of an individual who is not emotionally intelligent. She is not level headed or professional. I try to support women and small businesses however her conduct today was unacceptable and I was happy that she was willing to terminate our relationship so I could go elsewhere. However, she cannot terminate our attorney client privilege and keep my money too. If she wants out of our contractual relationship, I am willing to respect her wishes but she needs to give me all my money back. She owes me $810. I paid via a MC debit card ending in 5080 on 4/26/19. I need the refund right away as time is of the essence and I need to hire another attorney now to complete the emergency filing of my case ASAP. I am being harmed by Ms. Owens' failure to return my monies after she terminated our attorney client relationship. This is not how you conduct business. I had to file a Better Business Bureau complaint against Ms. Owen regarding this matter. Ms.Owen and her subordinates do not understand a primary point in business: you work for me, the client. I, the client, do not work for you. I demand that all individuals I hire to do work for me treat me with respect and in a professional manner. Under no circumstances should Owen or her staff be talking over me or hanging up on me. Her and her staff are verbally and emotionally abusive. I regret hiring her. She is simply not ready for prime time.
