John P. Shannon

John was born in New York City, where he lived until his family relocated to New Jersey shortly before junior high school.  Following high school, John attended college in Baltimore  at Loyola College in Maryland, now Loyola University in Maryland, where he earned a B.A. in Political Science in 1995.  John then attended law school at Seton Hall University School of Law, in New Jersey, where he obtained a J.D. in 1999.  After law school, John relocated to Las Vegas, where he served a judicial intership with the Hon. Ron Parraguirre in the Eighth Judicial District Court of Clark County.  John has been admitted to the State Bar of New Jersey since 1999, and the State Bar of Nevada since 2001.

For the past 12 years, John has devoted his career to litigation and trial work, which has included rather diverse areas of practice.  During that time, John has participated in over 20 jury and bench trials ranging from personal injury and insurance coverage disputes to contract and real estate matters, including eminent domain litigation.  John has further arbitrated hundreds of cases over that same period.  John has the distinction of obtaining one of the few known punitive damage awards against a escrow/title company that was operating illegally in Nevada.  

When it comes to personal injury and insurance disputes, John's career began with defending insurance companies and their insureds.  John later put the knowledge and experience he obtained over the years as an insurance defense lawyer to work on behalf of injured people.  The experience John has gained on both sides of injury and insurance cases has given him a unique perspective that enables him to consider each case on its own merits in order to give his clients a realistic evaluation of the likelihood of success;  whether case should settle or proceed to trial.

John's practice today primarily involves representing plaintiffs in personal injury litigation, whether it arises from a motor vehicle collision, premises liability matters such as slip and falls, defectively manufactured products, or insurance disputes such as uninsured or underinsured motorists coverage and bad faith litigation.

When he's not working, John spends his time with his wife, Jennifer, a graduate of Cimarron Memorial High School and UNLV, his two year old son Benjamin, and their two golden retrievers, Bailey and Daisy.  He remains a perpetually tortured but loyal fan of the New York Jets.
