Plaintiff was a laborer for a fish company at the New Fulton Fish Market. He was operating a pallet jack in a loading area when a forklift operator struck him, severely injuring plaintiff's leg. After ... unsuccessful surgery, the leg below the knee was amputated. The owner of the forklift agreed to offer their entire insurance policy of 1 million dollars, but the market denied that its unsafe practices contributed to the accident and refused to offer additional money.
