After I paid him my retainer to defend me in my misdemeanor case, he acted like it was a complete waste of his time if I called to inquire about my case (I think I called his office a total of 5 times over the course of my 3-year case). He turned out to be the classic "plea-bargain lawyer"--he got my... money, made routine court appearances, then finally encouraged me to plead guilty, presumably to save himself the time of going to trial. So I served a jail term for an offense that I learned almost nobody except his clients go to jail for. Finally, he never got my conviction "set aside" like he had promised he would do after my case was over; I wound up hiring another lawyer to finish his job.
