Worth every penny

I met with Kathleen and reviewed a mediation document. She sat down and went through all 44 pages of the document with me and made very sound recommendations. Had I not seen her, I would have agreed to a number of things that were not legally required and quite honestly, stupid. Her rate is reasonabl...e and I had I known of her sooner, I would have chosen to spend my money with her over a mediator any day. Mediators are no one's advocate. You need an advocate - a fair advocate - and that is the impression I had when I left Kathleen's office. If you are already in the process with a mediator, at least have her review your agreement. It is worth the time and the money. My personal opinion - you should see an attorney when you are divorcing and the attorney you should see is Kathleen Nielsen.

Wife retains home loan but not home

Kathleen Niesen forgot to include that the home loan needs to be transfered to spouse that retain the home. I currently retain the loan but I have no home to cover the loan. With all the years of practice you think this fact she would have presented to me. She is not even willing to work with me t...o fix it. Before the case was signed by the judge she had me sign release papers. Releasing her from any future obligation or litigation.

A third party creditor is not a party to the dissolution and both parties remain on the mortgage loan until it is refinanced in the name of the party who retains the home. It is common for the home loan to be refinanced by the party who retains the home within a reasonable period of time after the decree of dissolution is entered and then the other party is released as an obligor on the loan by the lender.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
