After eight years as an associate for a 500+ attorney national law firm, then a downtown Phoenix practice, Brooks Holcomb began his first entrepreneurial undertaking by establishing the boutique law firm of Brooks J. Holcomb, PLLC in 2008. As a corporate attorney, his firm lays the legal groundwork for launching new business ventures as well as servicing the ongoing legal needs of closely-held companies.
In his most recent entrepreneurial endeavor, he co-founded and served as General Counsel for the fast-casual healthy dining concept Original ChopShop Co., which initially had four (4) restaurant locations throughout the Phoenix area. As reported by Business Wire and Yahoo Finance in July 2016, a majority stake of ChopShop was acquired by Hargett Hunter Capital Partners, a North Carolina-based private equity firm, which scales hospitality concepts on a regional then national level. There are currently fifteen (15) locations of ChopShop in multiple states. He also co-founded and continues as a partner in The Montauk and Diego Pops restaurants in Old Town Scottsdale.
Previously, he co-founded Smashboxx, a nightclub in Scottsdale’s entertainment district, which was named “Best Success Story in Scottsdale” by the Arizona Republic and won the award for “Best Management” by the AZ Nightlife Industry Association.
In 2012, Mr. Holcomb was inducted by his peers to join the Arizona Chapter of Entrepreneur’s Organization, which is a global business network of 14,000+ business owners in 196 chapters and 62 different countries whose businesses had total sales over $160B last year.
His numerous articles on business and estate planning have been published by the American Bar Association (in its national publication Probate & Property), the State Bar of Arizona (in the Arizona Attorney magazine), and the Giving Counsel of the Arizona Community Foundation.
Mr. Holcomb received his law degree magna cum laude at the University of Miami and was inducted into the Phi Delta Phi Legal Honor Society and elected into the Society of Bar & Gavel. He earned an LL.M. graduate law degree in Taxation at New York University, and his bachelor’s degree in English and Business from Brigham Young University.
In the philanthropic community, he has served on the boards of directors of the Foundation for Burns and Trauma, Inc., and the Joyner-Walker Foundation, Inc. (a charity established to promote financial literacy among inner city youth). He has also been a member of the Scottsdale Active 20-30 Club, which raises funds for local children’s charities.
Recognition of his community leadership has included being named: (i) Top 50 Pro Bono Attorney of Arizona by the Arizona Foundation for Legal Services and Education; (ii) Guardian Ad Litem Attorney of the Year for Arizona by the Children’s Law Center; and (iii) Attorney of the Month by the Volunteers Lawyer Program as well as the Maricopa County Bar Association. Mr. Holcomb has been recognized in the Phoenix Business Journal, the Maricopa Lawyer, and Scottsdale Health magazine.
He is a proud former member of the Boy Scouts of America and attained the rank of Eagle at the youngest possible age (13). He enjoys international travel, health and fitness, and his beloved Miami Hurricanes football team.
