About me

I was admitted to practice in 1977 in Arizona.  I attended Arizona State University for my Bachelors Decree, then spent two years in the United States Army before obtaining my law decree from the University of Arizona in 1977.  I have always practiced in private practice handling jury trials in criminal cases and civil cases.  I also handled litigation in the bankruptcy court, probate court and family court.  About fifteen years ago I limited my practice to all aspects of family law, together with simple wills, medical powers of attorney and living wills.  I was a family law specialist for ten (10) years, but at this point in my career do not have that designation.  I encourage you to go to my website - leatherlawoffice.com for additional information.

Professional misconduct

This lawyer was disciplined by a state licensing authority.

  1. Censure
    issued in AZ, 2007

    updated

Censure means the attorney did something wrong but may still practice law. The State censures the lawyer in hopes that he or she will not repeat the behavior. Details of the infraction are made part of the public record.

James’s comment: “As a young attorney I was hired as an associate for a sole practitioner in 1978. A year later I became a partner with this attorney. Over the years the partnership became very dysfunctional. I attempted to help this attorney to make it a viable business, to no avail. Complaints came in resulting in 2007 in a censure for both myself and my attorney partner and a requirement that the partnership be dissolved. Since 2007 I have been successfully on my own with no problems with the Bar.”
