Unprepared, Reckless Billing, Not Accountable

Hiring Frank Amar Matura was one of the most expensive mistakes I made during my family-law case. I expected experienced attorneys who would at least be prepared for court. Instead, I paid tens of thousands of dollars in a single month and walked into a critical hearing where my own attorneys had ...weakened my position before it even began. Two days before the hearing, Gary Frank disclosed evidence to opposing counsel that directly contradicted my ex wife's story about a specific event. He did this without even discussing it with me first. Then, at the hearing, opposing counsel conveniently changed their story around the evidence they had just been given advance notice of. Logan Matura appeared for the hearing completely unprepared. I had prepared a full evidentiary packet, direct and cross-examination questions, impeachment material, and specific objections. Instead, she spent substantial time repeating questions to the point that the judge had to stop her for repeating herself. Several important facts were misstated or never even addressed despite the amount of information and preparation she had beforehand. They then blamed the judge for "bias" against them. What happened afterward was equally troubling. When I questioned these decisions and asked why my case had been handled this way, the response was not accountability or even a meaningful explanation. I was instead told they would withdraw because I “didn’t trust their judgment.” And this was not inexpensive representation. They left me with more than $13,000 in bills for this representation. They frequently added billing entries where both attorneys were involved in reviewing or handling the same communications and issues. Be aware that when both attorneys are involved, you can be billed for both of their time, which at their rates can approach $1,000 per hour. After working with them, I consulted with six other Arizona family-law attorneys because I wanted to understand whether the advice and strategy I had received was normal. Five of the six disagreed with the advice I had been given on the issues I discussed with them. The sixth, who said he had worked with this firm before, told me, “Yeah, I’m not shocked. I’ve worked with them and that’s pretty common.” My advice to anyone considering this firm is simple: keep searching.
