Madison Van Natter is an Associate Attorney at Doran Justice, PLLC. She was born in Lansing, Michigan, and later moved to Monticello, Minnesota, where she lived during elementary school and the early years of middle school. In 2012, Madison returned to Michigan, where she completed her high school education in Kalamazoo.
During high school, Madison discovered her passion for law through participation in mock trial. She was actively involved in her school’s Model United Nations organization and, in her senior year, began competing in high school mock trial competitions. She enjoyed working on cases and deepening her understanding of the law. Although she always intended to pursue a career in law, her experience in mock trial confirmed her desire to become a criminal defense attorney.
After high school, Madison was accepted into the James Madison Honors College at Michigan State University, a political science honors program. There, she earned a major in Political Theory and Constitutional Democracy, along with a minor in German. Throughout her four years at MSU, Madison actively participated in mock trial competitions, winning more than ten individual awards for her performances as both a witness and an attorney.
Additionally, she founded the MSU Undergraduate Moot Court Association, where she competed and placed at the national tournament for two consecutive years. Madison credits much of her success to the mentors and coaches who dedicated their time to help her grow as both an individual and a future attorney.
After completing her undergraduate studies, Madison attended the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University. During law school, she participated in nearly all internal competitions, placing in every single one. She also competed in law school mock trial, where she received personal awards for her performance as an attorney. Madison applied the speaking and advocacy skills she developed through mock trial to her coursework, ultimately earning the CALI award in her Litigation Experience class.
During law school, Madison participated in Arizona's Rule 39 program, which allows law students to represent real clients under the supervision of a licensed attorney. Under the guidance of Chris Doran and Tyler Schwenke, she had the opportunity to second chair DUI trials, conduct evidentiary hearings, and interview several police officers.
Madison also participated in Rule 39 through her law school clinic. In her third year, she joined the Public Defender Clinic, where she contributed to a DUI trial, interviewed clients, and helped negotiate favorable plea deals for several individuals. Madison loved making a difference in her clients' lives and supporting them during their times of need.
In her free time, Madison enjoys traveling, singing, and spending time with her friends, family, and her dog, Maxwell. She also loves getting to know and mentor the undergraduate students competing in Sun Devil Mock Trial. Madison values the opportunity to meet future lawyers and provide them with the same mentorship she received during her own competitive years. While some may argue that she spends too much time focused on law, Madison strongly disagrees. As one of her favorite mentors once said, “True success can only be accomplished by succeeding at something you are passionate about.” – CD. It is this passion that drives her to love her work and contributes to her success.

Absolutely amazing attorney!
Madison has been an amazing attorney for my case. My case is a little bit of a high conflict and dealing with the other parties Attorney. I’m amazed at how calm and understanding she is. "When you hire Madison, you're not just getting someone who will handle your case, you're getting someone who will invest time into understanding you as an individual and work tirelessly to get you the best possible outcome for your situation. I've known Madison for about seven years, and that entire time has been dedicated to helping others, both in and out of the office. Her passion for helping those in need is unparalleled and her oral advocacy and trial skills have been consistently rewarded with countless recognitions through undergrad and law school. She is one of the smartest attorneys I know and regularly out-lawyers those with decades more experience. The criminal justice system would be well-served with more attorneys like Madison. She is one of the most trusted referrals for my clients and I would not hesitate to contact her if I were in need of representation myself."
"Madison is the best kind of advocate to have in your corner. She is extremely passionate about criminal defense work, giving a voice the voiceless, and standing up for the disenfranchised. This type of passion is hard to find in many attorneys, but it is this type of passion that should be most desired when hiring a lawyer. In addition to her passion, Madi is hard working, diligent, and meticulous. She prepares, prepares, and over prepares for her cases. She is smart, articulate, and professional. Most impressively, Madison is a strong oral advocate. Her trial advocacy wins and accomplishments speak for themselves, but having watched her firsthand in the courtroom on numerous occasions, I can tell you that she has an advanced skillset when it comes to trials, cross examinations, opening statements, closing arguments, and the rules of evidence. Outside the courtroom, Madi is a wonderful human who is easy to talk to, welcoming, accepting, fun-loving, and compassionate. Highly recommend."
