I sought Roll Law out to help me with a divorce followed by bankruptcy. During the initial consultation, he made me feel he would defend my rights and help me with the financial aspects of my case. I was a bit reluctant since he did have a Censure and probation on his recent record. However, he seeme...d friendly and capable of handling my case. First problem I had was I did not hear from him until well over a month after I retained him. I tried multiple times to get things started as I needed to have the papers served as soon as possible. This was very frustrating. Next problem; I never dealt with Mr. Roll at all, only his paralegal. He did not offer any advice or guidance whatsoever. I had given him the agreed upon deposit and he never requested any more, which I would have provided. I’m glad I didn't give him more because he did nothing. The paralegal only filled out paperwork, and only as I requested, again, no advice at all. Throughout the process, I had continual problems with my spouse being in contempt of court. In fact, my spouse even met with Mr. Roll (absent of my presence) and came out feeling relieved! Roll did everything possible to discourage me from taking my spouse to court saying it would a long, expensive process and tried to opt for a settlement which we ultimately could not reach with my spouse. I ended up representing myself in a default hearing. However, since Roll had prepared the original petition that was served, he made the HUGE mistake of leaving out a request for child support, therefore I was not able to obtain any funds at all for our 16 year old daughter for whom I had full custody!

This client did not present a full or accurate account of what happened. Her spouse was never in contempt of court and, in fact, he was going out of his way to be sure that my client would be able to maintain her health insurance for as long as possible. I did meet with him (he was not represented by an attorney, so that is permissible) and we discussed the case. I understood that he was trying to help my client as best as he could (she was unemployed, uninsured, and had various medical conditions). He could have hurried the divorce process and then he would have not had to pay her nearly as much as he was. Frankly, I respected what he was doing and let him know that. No settlement was reached because my then client was not willing to accept a reasonable settlement. Also, any paperwork that I would have filed would have been reviewed by my client. She did not have full custody of her daughter and there were a number of issues that would have been hard to overcome should she have wanted to obtain full custody. Again, this client did not write a full, fair, or accurate account of the facts of her case.

Above and Beyond

Guy was exceptional! He represented me in a very complex lawsuit. He was very responsive and quickly grasped the substance of the case even though I hired him late in the process. Most impressive, he came back from a family vacation just to attend a hearing that the other side would not agree to p...ostpone. He went above and beyond for that!

Guy’s comment:

“My censure is related to a debt settlement practice that I started through my law office as an alternative to Chapter 13 bankruptcy. Over several years, this practice area grew to where I had approximately 50 employees working with 10,000 clients and settling over $78 million in debt. During this time, we had only 4 complaints to the State Bar of Arizona - each of whom just wanted a refund. The State Bar found this practice area incompatible with a law firm. It is now an independent company.”
