He’s Trying His Hardest

Mr. Whitney is my father and truly tries his best to get a fair sentence, he struggles with ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) and is a loving father of two. Before leaving a negative review please note that this affects me and my family. I know I’m a bit biased but I’ve seen him work on cases for hour...s on end while taking care of me and my sibling.

Very attentive and sincere

Mr. Whitney was genuine and helpful in explaining my son's case. He was patient with our questions and gave good advice.

Doesn't like his job

First meeting he didn't even give me his name ,threw a packet of papers on table and said I wouldnt fight this or you'll do yrs ,I said no way you have to counter something back, than next court a no show ,and kept dragging it out,and than wouldn't show up at court ,and I had to ask if doing this or ...that would help my case ,like recommend letters ,I asked about getting one from a judge that has known me my whole life ,he said yes that's what to do ,knowing it's a big no no for a judge to do, needless to say he wasn't there at sentencing and the judge took it out on me ,throwing me in jail ,giving me more than what state recommended ,and drug ,and basically said I was kidding about how my priors before from 13 plus yrs, were hurting me now and so judge thought I was losing to family and friends ,he really didn't care about me or his job ,now I'm screwed

He put off my case for as long as possible and then disappeared the day of my final court date.

Recently I had Peter Whitney as my public defender. Mr. Whitney asked for a continuation of my case 4 times, putting off my case for as long as imaginably possible. On the date of my what was to be my final court appearance, I was informed by another public defender that he is no longer handling my c...ase. Mr. Whitney insisted that my case would get dismissed after filing some paperwork with the state and claimed he just kept forgetting to do it. The judge was not pleased with Mr. Whitney's lack of motivation to file the paperwork as this was the only reason he asked for continuations each time. My new lawyer has enlightened me on the fact that Mr. Whitney never put down any notes for my case and has no idea how Mr. Whitney planned to get my case dismissed given the information he got out of my file. My new lawyer (in-between hearings on the day i met him filed for a dismissal of the case in a matter of 20 minutes. that leaves me utterly frustrated, because the lawyer who seemed too busy to handle my case was actually just a fraud who had no idea what to do and decided to give me false hope. If my case doesn't get dismissed i will have TASC for one year and if the dismissal paperwork would've been filed when it was supposed to and then denied by the state then i would be over a third of the way through my year of TASC. As someone who wishes to move out of Arizona for unrelated reasons (job opportunities are available to me in other states) , that brutally frustrates me. If you get Peter Whitney as an attorney i would highly suggest attempting to get a new lawyer. I'm posting anonymously because i don't want the justice system to view me differently in the future.
