Jon M Hogelin

I retained Jon Hogelin of Salcido Law Firm in December 2023 to register and modify a California custody order in Utah, paying a $5,000 retainer. Over the course of more than a year, Jon repeatedly assured me that filings were being made and progress was happening. In reality, the only document ever f...iled was factually incorrect—listing the wrong parties, referencing unrelated cases, and citing the wrong jurisdiction. The court rejected it, and my case never moved forward. Jon never informed me of the most basic requirement: I needed certified copies of my California court orders for registration in Utah. Because of this, my case was delayed nearly two years, putting my custodial rights at risk and forcing me to hire a new attorney to fix his mistakes. Communication was poor to nonexistent. I made countless calls and sent emails with little or no response. Despite this, I was billed for “review” and phone calls that produced nothing of value. When I finally demanded a refund, Salcido Law Firm issued a check that bounced due to a signature error, causing my bank account to go negative and adding even more stress and expense. To date, I am still owed a portion of my retainer, and my legal and financial situation has been severely damaged by Jon Hogelin’s incompetence and dishonesty. I have filed a bar complaint and fee dispute as a result. I strongly warn anyone considering this attorney: look elsewhere.

Jon is by far the worst lawyer I have ever encountered. He doesn’t do what he’s supposed to. He doesn’t communicate with any party involved in any sort of timely manner. After making a minimum of 5 attempts to contact him, I almost went to his office to see if he would respond in person. Luckily for ...him, he “wasn’t there.” This guy does nothing but stall and not respond. Stay away at all costs or get the treatment you deserve. Pathetic is another good word

Jon was late to most every single hearing with my court hearings for starters. He always had excuses for not being punctual. Jon would set times to meet prior to hearings to prep but could it show up on time. His lack of being punctual in court was the exact same with the lack of communication sur...rounding the matters in my own case. Example- I would receive documents from the main office via email that require a response from Jon. I would have to make the effort to communicate with Jon and when doing so, he was not timely... in some instances he didn't respond until further follow up from me. I would NOT recommend Jon to represent me or anyone as your attorney. If you are looking for an attorney that doesnt communicate or care about you or your case... he is the right person for the job!

Jon was an amazing attorney in every regard. The level of professionalism he exhibits as an attorney was beyond what I ever expected. He is honest and straight forward, he will tell you the reality of your case rather than what you want to hear. He was always available when I needed to reach him. ... There was never a day that I called or emailed him that he didn't respond. In court he takes his knowledge of the law and your case and presents it in a manner that lets you know he is there to fight for you. He was an amazing attorney that I would highly recommend.

I had no idea of what to expect during a divorce or that it would be as high conflict as it was. Jon was very familiar with the unchartered and tumultuous waters I was dealing with. Throughout it all he was always helpful to answer any questions I had and willing to educate me on matters involving ...the case. He was able to help me remove emotion from the equation and make the most educated decisions possible. The most recognizable thing for me was that he really had the children’s best interest at hand and as a mother that was extremely important to me. I am forever grateful to Jon and the rest of the Salcido team for helping navigate me through the process and onto a better way of life.
