Jedediah Knight

Jedi is a patent attorney, inventor, and entrepreneur. With a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics, he is a named inventor on over 40 patents, and has helped other businesses and entrepreneurs secure hundreds of patents and trademarks. Before founding Ballcap Legal, Jedi was General Counsel for a powersports manufacturing company, where he helped management develop and execute an intellectual property strategy, raise over $35 million dollars, and prepare for an IPO. Now, his practice focuses on helping law firms build their IP practices by providing white-labeled services and counsel, including counseling with clients on all matters related to intellectual property.

Outside of specializing in IP, Jedi is passionate about First Amendment Law. During law school, Jedi clerked for an international religious organization under the organization’s associate general counsel over IP. Jedi also helped research and draft the second edition of the Westlaw treatise “Religious Organizations and the Law.”

Prior to law school, Jedi was adjunct physics faculty at Brigham Young University Idaho and a research assistant in the atmospheric sciences lab at Michigan Technological University. While at MTU, Jedi helped develop a program for tracking the motion and behavior of individual water particles as part of a larger effort to characterize the impact of clouds on attenuating sunlight.

Jedi’s biggest passion in life, though, is his four children (and, to a lesser extent, his two cats!). Most of Jedi’s free time is spent cooking with his kids, coaching and watching football (or waiting for football season to start), playing the piano, and helping his children develop their passions and interests. Jedi also spends time developing applications and software that make getting legal counsel less expensive and more effective.
