also known as Deacon Haymond
Deacon is the Founder and President of Haymond Law. The firm’s highly specialized practice incorporates tax and legal strategies for individuals, families, trusts, estates, private business entities, and nonprofit organizations. He regularly advises and educates on probate, trust and estate administration, taxation, asset protection and general business matters.
Deacon’s recent work and research has focused on assisting families with all the legal and financial transfers involved following the death of a loved one, Dynasty and Legacy Wealth Trust planning, constructing charitable trusts, planned giving strategies, animals and pet planning, and protecting Family Limited Partnerships from newly enacted IRS laws.
In 2010 alone, Deacon has helped his clients plan for and administer over $65 million dollars of net wealth. Deacon supervised the creation of clients’ trusts, business entities, and all ancillary documents related to these clients’ plans. Deacon’s clients have also planned to set aside over $8 million dollars in Beloved Animal Trusts to ensure that the family pets are taken care of after their owners’ deaths.
For the previous six years, Deacon has been a member of the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys, which is a nationwide network of attorneys who share advanced research and in-depth knowledge of the latest estate and tax-planning laws and strategies; translating into added value for his clients.
Deacon was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was a Viking at Pleasant Grove High School in Utah County. Following coursework at Utah Valley University, Deacon then graduated from the University of Utah in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. At the S.J. Quinney College of Law, he served as senior staff member for the Journal of Law and Family Studies, where his article detailing Utah Asset Protection Trusts was published. He also spent a semester abroad studying comparative legal procedure at the London Law Consortium.
During law school, Deacon clerked for the Honorable Judge Frederic Oddone in the Third District Court. Upon graduation and passing the Utah State Bar in 2004, he was invited to join the firm of Holmgren & Mitton, L.C. (which later merged with Jones Waldo) where he specialized in Trust Administration and probate matters. Deacon is a member of the Utah State Bar, Utah County Bar, and Salt Lake County Bar Associations.
Deacon is a regular presenter and seminar leader in his chosen field and is a certified continuing education instructor. With over 36 hours of additional legal education annually, (200% more than the state requirement), he remains on the cutting edge of planning strategies.
In his spare time, Deacon loves the legacy and memories he builds with his wife and two children. Deacon enjoys family trips in “Deke’s black limo,” skiing at Utah’s famed ski resorts, recreating in Summit County and the Wasatch backcountry. Deacon also enjoys attending University of Utah football games and time well spent with clients, family, and friends.
