Disrespectful, Incompetent, and Unprofessional

Brett Bunkall was assigned to my SSI case, at the last minute, earlier this year. If I had known how unbelievably unprofessional, disrespectful, and incompetent Brett was, I would have requested another legal representative. I first spoke with Brett about two weeks before my hearing. Brett asked... me about my case, and my situation, but continually interrupted me, became quite frustrated, and claimed that many of my mental health diagnoses were irrelevant to my case. Despite the fact that I have been in counseling for the last ten years due to these diagnoses. I was taken back at how disrespectful and unprofessional Brett was, and immediately began to worry about the outcome of my case. During my hearing the Judge asked me specifically about the diagnoses that Brett deemed irrelevant, which contradicted Brett's assumptions, and reflected his poor legal strategy. Because Brett failed to consider these diagnoses as relevant, he was entirely unprepared for the hearing. And, ultimately, I lost my case. Words cannot express how disrespectful, incompetent, and unprofessional Brett proved to be. Once again, if I had been aware of his negligence and legal incompetence, I would have immediately asked for another lawyer to represent me. I cannot recommend Brett to anyone seeking legal representation. Though he failed to represent me, he successfully proved his ineptitude as a legal representative to clients with mental illness.

Steer clear of this attorney at all costs.

Brett Bunkall was assigned to my case a few years ago. I have no words for how he treated me. Not only was he extremely rude and condescending during calls, he was very dismissive and invalidating of my illnesses. He berated and patronized me for rescheduling the practice hearing, which I had to d...o because I was homeless, unemployed, very ill, and unable to afford a decent working phone, so it was very hard to arrange the necessary phone calls. Instead of being compassionate about what I was going through and working with me, he completely shamed and patronized me about rescheduling. It was very triggering. I regret not asking for a new lawyer for how disgustingly disrespectful he was. He made me so nervous about the hearing and I was in tears when I hung up. I could hardly eat or sleep until the hearing, especially the night before. Instead of giving me information and tips for the trial to me in a professional, tactful way, he treated me like I was a child, that I had no clue what I was doing, and I knew nothing of my illnesses. Even though Cannon had all of my medical records and info, I was rushed to explain from scratch how my illnesses affect me on the daily, which is surprising considering how cocky he was about how much he "knew" about them initially. Instead of showing compassionate and asking me questions to get more insight, I literally felt like I was being interrogated, and that every answer I had was either wrong, not good enough, and/or stupid and useless. I felt like a huge inconvenience and was so hopeless about the outcome. And surprise surprise, I didn't win. When he let me know about the denial, he also said they wouldn't do an appeal for me. I'm not sure why they would take my case in the first place if they wouldn't appeal as well if I was denied? Beyond unprofessional, traumatizing, and I regret having him as an attorney IMMENSELY.
