Great Family Law Attorney

Ms. Bloxham understand quickly what the issues were with my long, high conflict divorce. She was able to get things resolved in court. I highly recommend her!

Ineffective and incompetent

Amanda was recommended to me by a close friend as an attorney to represent me in a custody and decree modification case brought against me by my ex-husband. At first Amanda appeared to be on the ball and that she would be effective in delivering the results I hoped for. That all quickly changed. She... billed us for our entire retainer every month, no matter what was happening in our case. I was billed at least $2,000 a month! And almost $5,000 the very first month. On the first weekend my ex had parent-time he tried to pick a fight with my new husband during our custody exchange and the police were called. Ten days later at our first court hearing Amanda didn’t even attempt to bring this up, and instead ran around the corner to make a hallway agreement with the opposing attorney for curbside pickup for all custody exchanges; the exact thing we did not want, (we made it clear we NEEDED neutral midpoint exchanges). From there Amanda slow-walked everything we asked her to file with the court, (to the point nothing ever got filed). She was easily outmatched by the opposing attorney. It seemed like she was much more interested in having a professional report with the opposing attorney rather than fight for our side. We attended mediation with Amanda representing us, and she was again useless. The week after mediation my ex-husband blocked me in my driveway for over 30min one morning, during a custody exchange again, and the police were called again. We told Amanda we needed a protective order and motion for midpoint exchanges filed. She responded and said she would have them filed by the end of that next week. A month later when neither had been filed we appealed to Jessica Couser, the managing attorney in Amanda’s firm, for help and answers about the inept representation we were receiving. Couser was no help either. We ended up firing Amanda and her managing firm, (Jess Law) after four excruciating months. I thought hiring a female attorney that worked in law firm of mostly women would be very good to work with as mother that had been and still was being subjected to much abuse and harassment. They were no help. We paid them a small fortune over 4 months and have now had to hire a new attorney and essentially start from the beginning in my case. Zero results, zero accountability. PS, the friend that recommended Amanda to me has been burned by Amanda’s shoddy representation too. Amanda, (while working at her previous firm) failed to file the documents to close-out that case, and it cost my friend a week of parent time the next summer. When my friend reached out to Amanda about this failure, and how to fix it, Amanda's response was that she could close out the case for another $3,000. Bill baby, BILL!
