Deeply Disappointed by Lack of Professionalism and Follow-Through

I retained Catherine Hoskins for a family law matter in early 2025, hoping for assertive and compassionate representation during a difficult post-divorce process. Unfortunately, my experience was marked by repeated communication failures, lack of follow-through, and a concerning disregard for key asp...ects of my case. From the beginning, I felt reassured by Ms. Hoskins’ empathy and personal understanding of single parenthood. However, that initial trust quickly eroded. Emails went unanswered, and when I followed up, I was told she assumed I was “just venting.” Important legal questions—especially regarding unpaid support and asset protection—were ignored or brushed aside. I was repeatedly told “it’s just a checkbox,” without any clear strategy or explanation. There were also serious organizational issues. Ms. Hoskins admitted to confusing my case with others and sent me a secure document that belonged to another client—a breach of confidentiality that left me deeply concerned. She emphasized her friendship with opposing counsel, which seemed to take priority over advocating for my interests. When I raised concerns about potential conflicts, they were dismissed. A mediation scheduled during the summer was missed due to a medical emergency on my part. I asked for it to be rescheduled, but it never was—despite being required before our next hearing. Ms. Hoskins later said the mediator didn’t charge me “as a favor to her,” which felt inappropriate and irrelevant. What mattered was that the mediation didn’t happen, and we missed a critical opportunity to resolve the case. The most damaging oversight came when Ms. Hoskins failed to forward a settlement email from opposing counsel. She admitted this only after I followed up. Had I received it, my case could have been resolved months earlier, sparing me significant stress and financial strain. Ultimately, I had to retain a new attorney and am now facing over $10,000 in legal debt. I’ve had to rely on family for support and take time off work just to prepare and submit a formal complaint. I do not recommend Ms. Hoskins for family law matters. Legal representation requires diligence, responsiveness, and ethical conduct—qualities I did not experience during my time as her client.

Do not use

Catherine is lazy. She does not have knowledge of the laws. She will not read your divorce decree. She pretends to help you when she is putting no effort into your case. She has no interest in your well being or of your children. She is dishonest, cunning, she is never available to help.

I wish there was a no star option

She was terrible. What should have been a simple case was drug out for almost a year. She never answers calls and when you get ahold of her secretary you will never get a call back. Many documents had to be redone because there were simple errors that she should have caught. Do not go with her!!!

Catherine is not trustworthy, think twice before you go with her.

Catherine, is a very passive lawyer. If you want an aggressive lawyer, she is not right for you. She is very interested in keeping strong relationships with the attorney's she works with. She works for her own personal interests and pushes what she believes to be "right for you". In my case, privil...eged communication was jeopardized and information was leaked to my ex's attorney and was brought to my attention by the custody evaluator. In court, she forgot to request items that we had previously discussed and were important to my case. She is not proactive in moving things forward. She can be very expensive because she draws things out for a long period of time. I have heard from other community sources that other people who have worked with her have said the same thing. She doesn't update her clients and it was common for me to go 2 weeks or longer without getting an update. She wouldn't inform me on the laws and as I researched them in more depth, I learned that she was having me agree to things that I shouldn't be agreeing to. She knew that I didn't have a lot of money so I was low priority to her.
