My experience with Attorney Butters was a nightmare

My initial interview with Amy and her staff was pleasant and laid back. Filing for bankruptcy is a stressful time. I needed to know that my attorney would take care of it so that I could focus on getting my life back together. I had the opposite experience with attorney Butters. I had very simil...ar experiences to the others who have posted negative reviews about her. I have lived through hell the past two years. I finally gave up trying to get her to do her job and began acting pro se to files required paperwork for the trustee and court. I also had her dismissed as my attorney so that I could hire competent counsel to see me through the last year. I cannot express the level of stress that included sleepless nights and terror that the plan that I needed so badly to get back on my feet was at constant risk for dismissal. I finally contacted the department of justice to file a complaint. I would suggest contacting the Utah DOJ that deals with attorney discipline if you have been represented by Amy Butters and had similar experiences. I pray that she is disbarred so that she cannot harm other vulnerable clients.

Class Action Lawsuit

When my wife came to court, Amy never showed up. My wife was terribly embarrassed and falling apart on the stand when another attorney (who was preparing to leave) generously represented my wife that day so my wife could be guided through that experience. Worst (but not least) of all, Amy forged my w...ife's signature to sign documents we have never seen! We found out (and joined) the class action lawsuit here in Utah against Amy. Turns out she's previously been disbarred in CA and honestly, given our experience and the way she didn't represent us, I'm hoping she is disbarred here in UT so she can't hurt anyone else.

Awesome

Amy is a professional at her job. She has done all I can ask for and more in my case. When I was without wheels, she came to me. Ignore the negative reviews. Hire Amy.

Doesn't do her job

Never turned in my paperwork on time. I could never get a hold of her by phone or email. Hag to file my case almost 3 times and still didn't get it done because she either didn't turn things in or didn't show up. She should not be in this line of business

Unethical- Doesn't care about clients

The only reason she gets one start is because they made me click a star. We hired Amy and I can honestly say this was the biggest mistake we had ever made. Our experience was a complete nightmare. We've been working with her for over a year. She had asked us for the same documents multiple times that... we had already given her. When we showed up to court she didn't turn in paperwork on time so they had to reschedule us months later. She didn't call us back promptly or keep us updated on what was going on. She also NEVER notified us that the courts had raised our payments. We found out when we went to make a payment it went up over $100. After our second court date we thought everything was finalized correctly and just went on with our life. Months later we received a notice from the court that they were dropping our case because she didn't file ROUTINE paperwork. She had a small time frame to turn it in and SHE DIDNT. They dismissed our case and she told us she would take care of it. We received notice that she put in a motion to vacate the dismissal and she assured us everything was ok. Then we received notice that there was another court date and she told us we didn't need to go and she would take care of it. We called her after the supposed court date and she told us we would receive notice everything was back in place and we were good to go. WELL 2 days after that phone call we got a letter from the courts stating our case was PERMANENTLY dismissed because SHE DIDN'T SHOW UP TO COURT. We have tried to call her multiple times to resolve this issue. Her assistant answered and said Amy doesn't know why they dismissed our case. THE PAPERWORK CLEARLY STATES SHE DIDN'T SHOW UP TO COURT. She has not returned any of our phone calls. Her assistant offered for them to refile our case for free. Since then we tried to call numerous times. But guess what. STILL NO PHONE CALL BACK from their office. Now we have to spend more money and hire a new lawyer. We never missed a payment with the court. We did everything right on our part besides hiring her. We were on track to buy a house this fall and that went right out the window and it will be another year or so before we will be able to start looking for a house. I am just completely shocked at how anyone could have such a horrible experience with a lawyer. I hope that no one else ever has to go through what we went through.
