While in law school I discovered my favorite area of practice--criminal defense. I knew that when I graduated, I wanted to protect the rights of the accused and ensure that they have a zealous advocate on their side.
Upon graduation I immediately began working for the Colorado State Public Defender. I loved working for my clients, and for more than 5 years I fought for my clients' rights. Working for the public defender was a great experience and it helped me define the kind of attorney I am today.
I continue to work indigent defense as a contract attorney for the Office of Alternate Defense Counsel. I enjoy the opportunity to help ensure that every person has the right to counsel.
Once I entered private practice I brought over my criminal defense expertise to the civil side of the law, handling family law, property disputes, and civil matters. My experience in the courtroom gives me an added edge as I handle the civil cases that come into the office. I have found these civil cases to be as exciting and challenging as my criminal caseload, and I look forward to continuing to develop my civil practice.

"Mr. Esplin is an excellent criminal attorney. He is very versatile and possesses expertise in every phase of criminal defense. Some clients need a good deal and some clients need a great trial attorney. Mr. Esplin serves both of those functions at a very high level."
"I endorse this lawyer. I have known Ryan both as an opposing attorney and as a colleague in various settings. Ryan is one of the most empathetic lawyers that I know. He is also a good trial lawyer who understands what tactics are best suited to which facts in a case and I personally have seen him work his way out of tight situations where other lawyers might collapse. Finally, I would call attention to his ability as a good negotiator and a pragmatist. Ryan Esplin is an excellent choice to represent you."
