Contentious Divorce

At the end of 2023, I started calling around to lawyers to learn about the divorce process, but I wasn't certain on filing yet; I had several unsuccessful calls. I was then referred to Keith and Maher & Maher by a family friend. My initial consultation with Keith was great. He talked to me for a...lmost an hour, which stuck out to me, as that was longer than the free consultation time frame, answering a lot of questions and making me feel like I had a safe place to turn if I did in fact decide to file for divorce. Things in my personal life escalated to the point of me finally taking the leap to file for divorce a few months later. Despite Keith having a full caseload already, he graciously agreed to take on my case. The first few months of my case were quite tumultuous and emotional. I wrote many long-winded documents about my relationship, detailing the emotional abuse and parenting issues I had experienced over time. Keith was always empathetic, kind, and patient with me as we worked through the difficulties in the beginning. I felt that he always did a good job managing my expectations while assuring me that he would do whatever he could to give me the best outcome. Long story short, thanks to a bit of divine luck and Keith's hard work, I was able to get a permanent protection order against my ex-partner. This alone, I believe, greatly influenced the rest of my case. Even though nothing in life is guaranteed, having this protection order makes me feel leaps and bounds more safe in my everyday life and for any future involvement I have with law enforcement on this matter. I couldn't have asked for a better outcome on the protection order case, which was separate from the divorce case. As my divorce case progressed, I knew that Keith was very busy with a multitude of other cases, but he always kept up with my case right on time for various deadlines and, most impressively, he never got the details of my case mixed up with anyone else. I'm not quite sure how someone with such a full caseload exercises such patience or round-the-clock work, but Keith's dedication to his clients is clear. I felt that I was consistently treated with empathy and respect for my particular situation. During the first couple months of my case(s), I did speak a lot with Hannah, who was always warm, friendly, and extremely helpful on any concern I brought up. Even though she is no longer with the firm, her impact on my case should not be understated. After Hannah's departure, I mostly worked directly with Keith. However, any occasional interaction I had with other staff members was great as well. Overall, Keith was stoic in dealing with the antics of the opposing side in my case. Despite whatever reaction I had to the current arguments, and despite whatever threats and manipulation were coming in, Keith was calm and reassuring every step of the way. Ultimately, the outcome of my case was as close to ideal for me as the law allows. Keith didn't overpromise on anything, instead he was realistic, and through his expertise, strategy, and skill, we were able to come to a conclusion that was overall quite good for me. Also, I can honestly say that everything in my case was done with upstanding moral and professional conduct. None of my interactions with Keith or any of the Peak Partners/Maher & Maher firm lived up to any lawyer stereotype I've come across. My children and I will be forever grateful for the position that we're in now, thanks to all the guidance from Keith and his associates. Divorce is never easy; it's always a life-altering transition, no matter your circumstances. But if you do find yourself in the position of needing an attorney for such, these are the kinds of people you want on your side.

Doesn't respond to clients

I hired Keith after an outstanding consultation with him. He is quite the sales man I must say. My divorce was pretty simple. My ex and I agreed on almost everything with the exception of parenting time and child support. Two weeks after hiring Mr. Karnes I reached out via email with a question reg...arding a possible proposal. After 4 days I sent yet another email. 3 days later(the following monday) I sent yet another email. And 2 days after that I sent another email. Finally I had enough, so I called and asked to speak to Mr. Karnes. My response "Well he was suppose to be here already, but we can take a message." I left my information and again, after a couple days no contact. So I called back and spoke to Mr. Allen. He apologized for Mr. Karnes incompetence and scheduled me to come in to meet with him. Mr. Allen quickly got to woek on my case and my ex and I resolved our issues very quickly. I'm sorry to say Mr. Karnes dropped the ball on my case and has very poor communication skills

I apologize for the experience and representation you felt you had with your case. I always strive for the utmost client satisfaction. A lawyer’s duty to keep client confidences has few exceptions and in an abundance of caution I do not feel at liberty to respond in a point-by-point fashion in this forum. Suffice it to say that I do not believe that the post presents a fair and accurate picture of the events. Best regards, Keith Karnes
