Not Helpful at All

Roughly 6 months ago I was looking around for a lawyer to assist me in a child custody case and was on a small budget when I came upon the Gasper Law Group in Colorado Springs. I had met with Amanda and decided that while it would hurt me financially to hire a lawyer, in the end, I may come out of t...his hearing on a positive note. My ex was doing everything she could to keep my kids from me as well as take as much money from me as possible so she wouldn't have to work, and after first meeting with Amanda, I thought she would be aggressive and helpful - at the very least, try to help me retain my basic rights as a father. Needless to say that Amanda and her staff did very little outside of filing some very basic forms with the court. Often it would take weeks for her or her staff to respond to my phone calls and emails, and much of the case progression such as dates and timelines I had to hear from either my ex or my ex's lawyer - NOT my own attorney. I felt like she didn't attempt to come to an agreement during required mediation at all. Also, in the two times we met face to face, much of the conversation we spoke of was regarding topics OTHER than my case (such as her personal life) - to which I was no doubt charged for. In any case, very little was done to represent me and after being $7000 in debt and nothing to show for it, I felt as though my attorney was doing what she could to avoid resolution and proceed to a hearing which would ultimately cost more money. I told her I didn't have the money to go to court and that we had to reach an amicable settlement out of court. Her response was that my ex was going to get everything she asked for and if I didn't have more money to make it to trial, there was no point in continuing. Out of money, options, and patience, I let her go and was forced to represent myself. Obviously this isn't a smart idea and I learned firsthand of the parental prejudices in the judicial system we hear so much about. I lost all rights to my kids - EVERYTHING - and was even forced to pay MORE money. My wife now gets nearly $3000 a month from me (a military member on a small budget) , and I feel that Amanda and her staff really let me down. I feel like I threw away so much money and received absolutely nothing in return. I wouldn't recommend this lawyer.

I have reviewed my files and orders on the cases issued after I have withdrawn. I have not found a case in which my former client lost parental rights, however I would be more than willing to discuss your case and the outcome with you, as well as future planning to modify things. While I do occasionally relay personal experiences in discussing certain standards for parenting time restrictions, I do not charge my clients for any time spend on matters that are not related to their case. I make every effort to maintain contact with my clients and respond in a timely manner. Please contact me to discuss any issues you may have with my representation.
