Replied last December 28, 2015A patent application is substantively reviewed by the US Patent Office and is not automatically accepted and issued as a patent grant. It is common for an application to be rejected for various reasons on the first Office Action issued by the US Patent Office and the applicant may respond to the Office Action with amendments to the application and rebuttal arguments. This was explained to the client, but he chose not to respond to the outstanding Office Action and to let his patent application lapse.
