Ellen M. Ross

Rude and unprofessional, yells a lot to get her point across, took forever to get me my retainer when I fired her for lack of communication. Refused to ever speak with me directly until she had deadlines, other than that I was speaking to her paralegal who was playing messenger. Don't waste your time... or money.

Ms. Ross was a God send for me. I had so many questions and concerns as I was in unknown territory regarding the custody arrangements for my daughter. Ms. Ross is compassionate, empathetic, responsive with phone calls and emails and knew my case from beginning to end. What impressed me the most was t...hat she wasn't "all about the money". In fact, she helped guide me in making good decisions that saved both money and time. I could not be happier with the service she provided and results she delivered. She's an amazing attorney. I'd recommend her to family and friends without hesitation.

Ellen does things differently. Her fee structure (at the time I engaged her) was a flat-rate, which made it easy for me to know what I was getting into. My situation was amicable, and yet divorce does things to people. My retirement plan was at risk, and Ellen is the sole reason I got to keep it with...out any compromise beyond what felt fair to me. You need an advocate who understands the psychology of other attorneys, who has experience in navigating complicated terrain, and who will bare her teeth when necessary. She has strong social skills and is highly personable, which isn't common with divorce attorneys (disillusionment can mess with your head, I guess). She knows how to make light of things to remove worry, but can also flip to a more serious mode when it's appropriate (and necessary). I found it incredibly easy to communicate with her in person, over the phone, and through email. That trifecta is essential, as sometimes you have a pleasant meeting an attorney – only to then feel like you're speaking to someone entirely different over email. The moment I realized I made the right choice in hiring her came during mediation (which is mandated in certain areas when you file for divorce). We made a more-than-reasonable offer, which was met with a ridiculous counter that only got more ridiculous. Ellen jumped in, set new ground rules for how the negotiations went, and I walked away with everything that I wanted. Had I been a more malicious person, there's no telling what deal we could have struck. I'm just thankful this part of my life has passed, and I'm appreciative that I had excellent legal counsel during such a tumultuous period. She was referred to me by another respected attorney, and so I'd like to pass along the referral by saying that I would unequivocally recommend Ellen Ross.

I was yelled at constantly, belittled, told to "shut up", threatened, etc. It was her way or the highway. She caused me more stress than I started out with... $3500 wasted and got my son and I nowhere. She refused to listen to me at all and just bailed on me in the middle of our case. I'm a singl...e mom, now what?? Horrible attitude...I became afraid to even talk to her because I would literally end up in tears. Just awful.

My divorce was extremely complicated and was very lengthy due to issues with my ex, as he did not want to comply or cooperate in any manner. I researched lawyers in the area and a friend referred me to Ellen. She was very thorough and always looking out for my best interest and my children's best int...erest. She communicated consistently through email and phone calls, and always replied within 24 hours. Her fees were also lower than other lawyers in the area. She was able to find a fine balance between what direction/approach she thought we should take based on her professional experience and knowledge, along with my needs and my children's needs. She always broke down what possible outcomes we could face, based on all of the possible strategies we could use. She did her research on opposing lawyers and the judges, and considered that as we built out case. She was always professional in court, and consistently made thorough and detailed arguments that could always be backed up with numerous pieces of evidence. No matter how emotionally drained I was, she made sure that I continued to fight for what was right and justified, and in the best interest of my kids. After seeing the outcome of the case and how much Ellen was able to successfully argue and prove my points, many other people who were in the same situation as me asked how we went about doing things and how they too could be so successful with handling a divorce. A few of these people even asked for Ellen's information to contact her regarding their issues. I would gladly pass Ellen's info on to anyone who requested it. I myself will most likely contact Ellen again when I move forward with my Living Will.
