My practice handles appeals from trial court judgments, in both civil and criminal cases. For every year since 2006, I have been listed in the field of appellate law in The Best Lawyers in America (www.bestlawyers.com) and in Colorado "Superlawyers" (www.superlawyers.com).
I was taught to perform appellate work by former Colorado Supreme Court Justice Jean Dubofsky. After Justice Dubofsky decided to leave the bench, she became a private practitioner for a number of years before her recent retirement. While she was in private practice, I had the privilege of working with her on many appeals in the Colorado state appellate system and the federal appellate system (U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit). Through her, I acquired the knowledge, experience, and judgment to become a good appellate lawyer.
In an appeal, the quality of the legal briefs is especially important. I have repeatedly been told by trial lawyers, and I have heard indirectly from judges, that the legal writing in my appellate briefs is particularly clear.
I am a 1986 magna cum laude graduate of Harvard University Law School, and a 1982 summa cum laude and phi beta kappa graduate of Princeton University.

I contacted Dean when I had only 1 week left to submit an appeal. My previous lawyer had literally betrayed me. Dean got an extension and revamped my entire appeal. He did not win my specific appeal. That was impossible with terrible representation that I had during trial. But, he set my case up...

Dean represented me in appellate court and I couldn't have chosen a better lawyer to do so. He kept me abreast of case developments, responded to my questions in a timely manner, and ensured that I understood the complex process and legal jargon inherent to legal proceedings.
