Vincent Buckmelter

Vince Buckmelter is a criminal defense trial attorney with seventeen years of experience. He was raised in Denver and graduated from East High School, the University of Colorado at Boulder (B.A., 1989), and from the University of Denver School of Law (J. D., 1993), attending as a recipient of the DU Law Scholarship.

Vince began his legal career as a Deputy District Attorney, prosecuting cases in several metro Denver counties. He worked as a District Attorney for five years, prosecuting all types of felony crimes including Murder, Sex Assault, Drug Distribution/Possession, Burglary, Assault, Theft and Domestic Violence crimes. While at the District Attorney’s office, Vince also worked as an instructor teaching college courses on Search and Seizure and interrogations and Confessions.

Upon leaving the District Attorney’s office and entering private practice in 1998, Vince’s practice as a trial attorney has focused on defending persons charged in criminal cases. His practice involves all felony and misdemeanor criminal cases and is centered in Denver, Boulder, Jefferson, Adams, Arapahoe, Douglas and the mountain counties, as well as a variety of municipal courts throughout the region. While handling thousands of criminal cases during his career, Vince has tried approximately 100 criminal trials and has also argued before the Supreme Court of Colorado. Two of his cases, before the Colorado Supreme Court and the Colorado Court of Appeals, can be located at People v. Shepard , 983 P.2d 1 (Colo. 1999) and People v. Ware , 39 P.3d 1277 (. 2001). With extensive experience on both sides of the criminal justice system, Vince has a widespread familiarity and understanding of the Judges and the District Attorneys in the Denver metro area. Vince uses the knowledge gained from those relationships combined with his legal and trial skills to seek the best possible result for each client, whether that requires a plea agreement or a jury trial.
