Tony Fabian is a Colorado native, raised in the mountain town of Leadville at an altitude of nearly two miles above sea level. A 1987 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland and a Navy veteran, he served as a division officer aboard the battleship USS Iowa (BB-61), as aide and flag lieutenant to Rear Admiral Byron E. Tobin, Jr., commander of the world’s largest naval base in Norfolk, VA, and on the staff of Commander, Naval Forces Korea before his Honorable Discharge in 2000. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Denver College of Law in 1996 and served as a prosecutor in the Eighteenth Colorado Judicial District for nearly five years. After working for two private civil law firms where he defended local governments and their employees, along with policyholders of State Farm Insurance, he has operated his own law practice in Castle Rock emphasizing criminal defense and other personal litigation since 2002. In addition to previously serving as an instructor and mentor in the University of Denver College of Law Lawyering Process course, Tony has been an instructor for the Community College of Aurora Police Academy since 1998, teaching courses in Search and Seizure law, Rules of Evidence, and Courtroom Testimony. He has taught similar courses, in addition to lawful use of force, for the Aurora City Marshal continuing training program.
A dedicated firearms rights advocate, Tony is a life member of the National Rifle Association, Second Amendment Foundation, and the Colorado State Shooting Association, which he has served as president since 2001. Under Tony’s leadership in 2003, Colorado State Shooting Association was instrumental in passing the most important firearms rights legislation in decades when uniform state-wide shall-issue concealed handgun and local firearm restriction pre-emption legislation was enacted by the Colorado General Assembly and signed by Governor Bill Owens, legislation which Tony personally helped develop and draft. Tony also writes a legal information column, “The Hired Gun—Firearms and the Law,” for Colorado Shooting, the Colorado State Shooting Association magazine. A lifelong shooter and hunter, Tony is a qualified highpower service rifle competitor (expert class) and an avid shooter and collector of military firearms/equipment.
