Not a helpful lawyer

I asked Cathrine to help me for my case. I needed to apply for motion to reopen my case. All of the lawyers (I found out later) work like that: They charge for initial consultation and then if you hire them they extract it from the price they told you they'll charge for the service. She doesn't ...offer that. Then after I did ask her to print emails for me (I needed it for proof) she did advise me that I didn't need them but I insisted and she said she'll print them all out. After she did the "favor" she said I owed her 400$ more because of how much time she spent on it. First you need to tell me it'll be extra!!! Second why didn't your assistant or paralegal did that for you and that would've cost me alot less since they are not so expensive per hour. I didn't find that very honest of her and at the time I was going through alot and she didn't make it easier on me. Now I'm happy that she is helping other people. This is my experience and I didn't appreciate it.

I am sorry to hear this client was frustrated with my billing of services. The reason I had to bill 1.8 hours on my attorney time was because the client insisted on immediate action and I did not have enough paralegal staff to respond in the time frame requested. I did explain this to the client and that I had to "bill for my time," which is also in writing in the fee agreement, but I must not have made this clear to her. If there remains a billing issue, please contact my office directly.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
