OUTCOME: Juy Verdict for the Plaintiff
Defendants, in their capacity as insurance brokers obtained personal and privileged information about Plaintiff. Using this private information, Defendants printed hundreds of libelous flyers and distr...ibuted them throughout the Client’s neighborhood going so far as directly contacting the Client’s employer, church along with other personal and professional acquaintances.
The jury determined that Defendants actions breached a fiduciary duty owed to their Client as well as amounted to an invasion of privacy, negligently and intentionally causing our Client emotional distress. The statements made and distributed were found to be slanderous and libelous. Ms. Antonyan successfully demonstrated that Defendants were engaged in a conspiracy to commit Libel and Slander against her Client. On all seven counts the jury determined that the Defendants acted with malice, oppression, and fraud necessitating an award of punitive damages above and beyond the general damages awarded.
After two days of deliberation, the jury awarded $25,000.00 in general damages and $25,000.00 in punitive damages.
