At that time, Dick was prosecuting Dr. Thomas Butler for illegally transporting bubonic plague. The case was complex and garnered much media attention. Dick recently left the U.S. Attorney's Office after having served as an AUSA for over 20 years. He is now a Defense Attorney and Associate Professor at Texas Tech University School of Law.
