Nancy L. Perry

I hired Nancy to complete the adoption of my grandson, who lived with me, from my daughter whom he had seen less than 10 times in his life. When we walked in her door it was a friendly adoption. A year and half later we had nothing. Well, we did have a war going on at that point. According to Nan...cy it was the fault of the Taylor County AGO to whom my daughter and the father owed much in arrears. She could not get the case transferred to Travis County in the year and half she had the case. My daughter, who kept owing child support the entire time got so angry that she became abusive. The abuse got so severe while waiting, that my grandson was emotionally hurt and abused by my daughter; deliberately, in her words "to make the adoption happen faster." She forced visitation she had never utilized before, and used her time with him to abuse him. She abused me daily on the phone, in emails, online. Everywhere. We had ZERO protection. Nancy either could not or would not help us. At first she promised a TRO if things got bad, but when they did, Nancy did nothing. She said we couldn't really get a TRO. She said a judge would never grant one. She said we couldn't stop my daughter from seeing the boy and that she couldn't listen about the abuse going on over there as she would have to turn my daughter in to CPS and she didn't want to do that. She told me she would hang up if I kept talking! She said there was nothing we could do. The Attorney Generals office said that the case did not have to be in Travis county for the adoption to go through, so they were not able to help us either as they didn't understand the problems, nor could they talk to me anymore as I "had a lawyer." After a year and half of waiting, and the last 6 months full of abuse for my grandson and myself, I was so angry and depressed that I hired a new lawyer. Within two days we had a TRO, which put the case in our county and gave the local courts jurisdiction. My grandson was sent to a therapist the first week, who after the interview, wrote letters to the court demanding that someone protect the child. The court has kept us safe under the original TRO and extended TRO's until a contract was signed yesterday in the interim until the adoption is finalized. The adoption is almost over now. It took the new lawyer one month from start to now. Personally, I liked Nancy. She is someone I would have enjoyed as a friend. I believe her heart is in the right place. On the other hand we wouldn't hear from her for months at a time. She was always off work for some reason. She was sick a couple of times for weeks on end. A dog died. There was always some excuse as to why I wouldn't hear from her. The first year was long, but not much abuse went on then and it was only towards me, whom my daughter owed a great of money that I was trying to forgive. Nancy did spend time on the phone with my daughter, who would anger Nancy so much she would call me to vent. Once even yelling, but nothing was ever done. We only saw Nancy in person one time, in the very beginning, when the father came in to sign the relinquishment papers. I never saw her again. Everything was on the phone or in emails. I do understand that the case got complicated by the Taylor County Attorney Generals Office having jurisdiction. Nancy always said she was going to go up there, but she never did. I think Nancy took our $3000.00 retainer in good faith, and then could not keep up. I kept thinking maybe if I had more money something could have been done faster. Yet, the new lawyers took the same amount of money and got a lot done in a very short time, even though the case was very complicated by the time they got it. They simply handled it. While I think that Nancy is a good hearted person trying to do the right things, I could not recommend her to anyone.
