Courtney Cherry is an associate attorney practicing family law at Kirker Davis. Courtney has experience in complex divorce, contested child custody, and marital property division.
Courtney was born in nearby Killeen, Texas and lived much of her life in Texas before attending college in both Florida and Pennsylvania. She graduated cum laude from Lehigh University with a degree in International Relations and a minor in Environmental Science. Courtney also played collegiate volleyball, while at Lehigh, balancing the many demands of being a student-athlete. Following graduation she moved to Houston to pursue a coveted spot in the national program of Teach for America, teaching disadvantaged students in diverse communities within the city. Courtney then attended University of Houston Law Center.
While at the University of Houston Courtney was a published member and senior editor of the Energy & Environmental Law & Policy Journal and a member of the University of Houston Immigration Clinic. As a former teacher and member of the immigration clinic Courtney was drawn to a career that assists people in their everyday lives. She is passionate about family law and utilizes her various life experiences to communicate and advocate effectively on behalf of her clients.
Courtney began working on a variety of family law matters with a firm in the Houston area, once admitted to practice law in 2012. This included collaborative divorce, marital property division, pre and post-marital agreements, child custody, adoption, contested divorce resulting in multiple mediations, hearings, trial and appeal. Courtney also represented clients in matters pertaining to immigration and estate planning during her time in Houston.
Courtney, her husband and her two children, then moved to Austin to continue her pursuit of family law at Kirker Davis. Courtney’s background in international relations, as well as immigration law, provides a multicultural understanding in her role as a family attorney. She also employs her experience in education to better serve parents and children as a litigator.
