Divorce and Separation 50%

Psychologists say divorce is the 2nd most stressful life event. If you need heart surgery, you don't go to your family doctor who does a little bit of everything. You go to a Board Certified Heart Surgeon. Do the same for your divorce. Don't settle.

Child Custody 20%

Child custody issues hinge on what is best for the child. Parents must be extremely careful to protect their children during the divorce process. Judges particularly despise parental alienation, when one parent bad mouths the other to the child.

Child Support 20%

Although a court could order either or both parents to support a child, typically the non-custodial parent, the parent with the least amount of time with the child, pays child support. The amount is based on a percentage of that parents income.

Alimony 5%

The court can order spousal maintenance if the spouse seeking support will not have enough property at the time of the divorce to provide for basic need. Typically, one must be married for ten years or longer, with some exceptions.

Excellent representation and great people

I retained representation from Ms. Brown after my last attorney's office became quite liberal in their billing practices and I required excellent representation that was also affordable. Ms. Brown, and her office, are extremely patient and understanding. They take the time to make themselves availabl...e whenever I call or email about any questions or concerns I have about my case and thoroughly discuss them with me when I do. Ms. Brown has represented me in several hearings since taking on my case and every time I come away feeling that I was very well represented and that the Court's rulings were in my children's best interest. I would definitely recommend retaining Ms. Brown's services, you'll get great representation and people that really do care about your case.

Lawyer review

Patricia Brown did an excellent job as our attorney. She was very kind, understanding and very very knowledgable. She answered all of our questions on our first visit and was very patient and understanding as we had question as the situation progressed. Her paralegal, Paula Israel is excellent to wor...k with and tremendously knowledgable. A scary and nerve racking experience was turned into something much more easy to deal with because of Patricia and Paula's professionalism.

Going Downhill

We used Patricia several years ago and was greatly satisfied, she was compassionate, caring, and listened to our needs, so much that we recommended her for our son when he needed legal services. The first time we used her services the case lasted three months at the most. She took care of everything... and informed us about every step of the case. We never were in doubt at what was happening, or what she needed from us. The second time the case stayed open for one full year; with her checking her calendar once a month and charging him $150 to $275 each month, the bill did not state anything else other than checking the case. What she said was going to be an easy case, became a costly case - AND no one was at disagreement. Then my son got a final bill for over $500. This case ended up costing him well over $5000 and my son lost everything to his ex-wife, including primary custody and now is paying child support, even though he takes his child to all appointments. He just wanted a smooth divorce. We are going to need legal services later with child custody and adoption and would have used Patricia for this; however, she went from being an excellent attorney to poor.

The client that posted this was a bankruptcy client. Her son's case was a divorce, which is a considerably different legal experience. It is not reasonable to expect these radically different cases to take the same amount of time, the same expense, or achieve the same outcome. Further, in the son's case, there were complicating factors, including a completely unexpected third party, who joined the case. This person’s involvement slowed the case, and required additional effort on our part, adding additional unnecessary costs. We were pleased that the client himself was very satisfied with the handling of his own case. We believe her son's case was handled very effectively, given the extenuating circumstances beyond our control. The son, who didn’t post, actually agreed and was satisfied with our work. We take our motto “We’re close to you” very seriously. Clients with legal concerns are often under some stress or duress, and we treat our clients with sensitivity and respect. First and foremost, we listen carefully to our clients and don’t shove some pre-determined, formulaic “solution” down their throats.

Relationship: Opposing Counsel on matter

"Patricia was opposing counsel on a recent divorce matter involving children. I found her to be very reasonable and easy to work with, while still steadfastly representing her client. She has a very no-nonsense, common sense approach to matters, which is refreshing. Although the case was a difficult one, we were able to settle it in an amicable fashion after a lot of hard work!."

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
