Sara Megan Barrera

Sara Stapleton Barrera is a principal and majority owner of Stapleton & Stapleton, a family-run firm with roots going back more than fifty years. Her father, Ed Stapleton, founded the practice, and it became Stapleton & Stapleton when Sara joined as an attorney.

Sara earned her Bachelor of Arts from Antioch College in 2006 and her Juris Doctor from Texas Southern University's Thurgood Marshall School of Law in 2010, and went on to earn an LL.M. from the University of Oklahoma, School of Law.

Over the past fifteen years, Sara has represented hundreds of clients in the courts of Cameron County and South Texas. 

Sara is the founder and past president of the Cameron County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, which she established in 2023. She is an active member of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and serves as a Director of the Federal Bar Association. She is also licensed to practice before the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma Tribal Court and is a member of the Native American Bar Association.

She has been invited to speak at events hosted by the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, the Lubbock Area Bar Association, the Cameron County Bar Association, and the State Bar of Texas. Sara represents clients in English and Spanish.
