Daniel Covich received his undergraduate degree at Texas State University, San Marcos, Texas, with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice to include National Honor Society and was nominated by the faculty as Outstanding Criminal Justice Student of the Year. Daniel graduated with a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Law, Norman, Oklahoma, to include National Honor Society.
Daniel sat for and passed the Texas Bar Exam at age 24. Daniel is a member of the State Bar of Texas; and former committee member for the State Bar of Texas including the Judicial Screening Committee; Elder Law Committee; and Legal Services to the Poor.
Daniel has served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Texas Law School in Austin, and is a former Texas Assistant Attorney General. Daniel was instrumental and in fact, lead counsel in the case; Browder vs. Harris County, which challenged Harris County policy related to peace officer training and the use of deadly force.
Recently, Daniel was part of a team of lawyers that led the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals decision to strike down a discriminatory voting law in Texas. Daniel was also one of two originating attorneys who first recognized the mortgage industry misconduct related to loan underwriting for minorities which helped lead to the historic NAACP class action brought against many lenders in the mortgage industry, one of the first such lawsuits in the nation at that time. Daniel is a NAACP Silver Life Member, and is co-chair of the NAACP Legal Redress Committee.
