Mr. Nowlin works at his own pace and is not very aggressive. I hired Mr. Nowlin to represent me while my ex-wife tries to fix the final divorce decree that she and her attorney butchered so she can receive her portion of my military retirement. Our working relationship was strained by distance- I was in Germany and he is in San Antonio. The changes made to the final divorce decree were so poorly written, that DFAS rejected it completely. In addition to that, she did not file with DFAS after our divorce some 4 years earlier. One would think that if she and her attorney altered the final divorce decree that she would have to pay to fix it; but somehow I ended up paying $8K so she could fix her screw up. This process took over two years! In addition to taking a very long time (and he did have health problems that took him away from the office for about 3 months), he wasn't aggressive enough. We had a Rule 11 agreement that required me to pay a very large sum of my ex-spouse's retirement portion (before the agreement) in exchange that she produces documents that I have requested from her on numerous occasions. The Rule 11 agreement was signed by both attorneys. I paid the money, and she did not produce the documents. He did not file the Rule 11 agreement with the court until a year later. Mr. Nowlin is NOT like other attorneys, charging for every email or quick call to clarify something. In fact, he didn't present me with the bill until 2 years after hiring him and he gave me a discount if I would pay it off by a reasonable deadline. I believe if I was local and could have face to face meetings and not handicapped by a seven hour time difference, I would have had a better result.

James Nowlin, besides being my father and boss, has been an excellent mentor to me both before and throughout my legal career. I wish all young lawyers could be so lucky as to have such a mentor to guide them in the practice of law.
