A Ford dual axle pickup hauling a convenience store sign on a flatbed trailer was traveling on Interstate Hiway 37 when the sign was ripped off of the flatbed as it passed under a bridge. The sign, re ... aching 14 feet 10 inches into the air, failed to clear the bridge that provided only 14 feet six inches of clearance. The Ford and flatbed trailer came to a stop in the middle lane of the expressway, where the driver decided to await the arrival of the police. After several minutes, a vehicle carrying the Crawford family slammed into the rear of the flatbed, killing the driver and severely injuring the passengers.
