Lisa M. Beck

Ms. Beck was my lawyer for a relatively easy and uncomplicated divorce (no children or major assets). After we met in person, she sent over the initial paperwork to file and my name was misspelled throughout (in two different ways!). Throughout the divorce I found her rather condescending, including,... when I didn't catch part of what she was saying on a phone call (the other line was ringing, beeping over her words) and I said "Sorry?" (as I didn't hear her) and she repeated what she had said "It would behoove you." I stopped to think about my response and before I could answer she snapped "Do you not know what that means?" I have a graduate degree so, yeah, I did. She additionally made some assumptions about my political leanings, perhaps based on the part of town I was raised in, which led to some rather unfortunate comments I was uncomfortable hearing from anyone, much less someone I was giving money to or who was representing me in a serious matter. She seemed not to take seriously things I knew about the man I was divorcing and how he would react to situations. This led to more back and forth with his lawyer which meant more money out of my pocket and into hers and an even more stressful divorce. I am sure there are very few people in the world who could recommend their divorce attorney, as divorce is never a good event, but several rounds of clerical errors and inappropriate "chit chat" about sensitive political issues one does not bring up in polite conversation, left me uncomfortable in a way I should not have been.
