I'm Richard Hinds, JD/PI, a criminal defense attorney and licensed private investigator with over 26 years of experience defending clients across Southeast Texas. As one of fewer than 20 attorneys in the state with dual licensing as both a lawyer and private investigator, I bring a powerful, unique approach to every case, combining my legal expertise with advanced investigative skills. This dual qualification allows me to oversee every detail of a case personally, from evidence gathering to defense strategy, without relying on outside investigators.
My career began after graduating from Baylor Law School in 1997, where I honed my skills in trial advocacy and was named to the Dean’s List. Since then, I've developed a reputation as a tough, results-driven advocate who is dedicated to achieving the best possible outcomes for my clients. My focus is on resolving cases outside the courtroom when possible, as only 1% to 2% of Texas cases go to trial, and over 80% of those trials end in guilty verdicts, often with sentences three to four times longer than plea deals. This is why I prepare each case as if it's going to trial from day one, aiming to secure dismissals or plea offers that are in my clients’ best interests.
As the founder of Texas Financial Investigators, I lead a team that includes experienced investigators, including an ex-law enforcement officer, allowing us to challenge prosecution evidence with thorough, skilled investigation. With a background as a former Golden Gloves boxer and Teamster, I bring resilience, focus, and strength to each case, committed to protecting my clients' rights and futures. I proudly serve clients in DeWitt, Victoria, Calhoun, Jackson, Refugio, Lavaca, Goliad, and surrounding counties, always available for serious cases across the state. If you’re looking for a skilled, dedicated advocate who will fight for your freedom and future, I’m here to help.

Richard became my 3rd attorney a year after my husband was killed in a robbery. I was trying to get all the details of his estate handled (which was a nightmare because he owned a business, & had children from a previous marriage) and my probate attorney was about to help me make a HUGE mistake altho...
"Mr. Hinds and I practice in some of the same areas of law. I have had the privilege of reviewing many of her responses and comments to questions posted on Avvo. His answers and comments reflect a deep understanding of the law and have provided helpful information. I endorse this lawyer."
"I endorse this lawyer. Richard worked hard to settle a case that could have cost both our clients lots of money to just keep fighting. He puts his clients needs first and does an excellent job represpenting his clients."
